Salted Calf Skins

New Zealand wet salted calf skins are tanned to produce very fine leathers for fashion shoes, bags and garment leathers.

The production of calf skins is seasonal from July to October. The skins are cooled under controlled conditions for transportation to one of our processing sites.

Skins are graded according to weight and symmetrical shape.

Salted Sheep Skins and Lamb Skins

There are different seasons for lamb and sheep skins. Sheep skins are selected all year round, while woolly (unshorn) lambskins are selected from late October through to March. These mainly service the production of decorative and bedding rugs, medical rugs, car seat covers and double face garments.

Shorn lambskins are selected from February through November while Sheep skins are selected all year round. Skins with finer wool types are chosen for use in the production of garment lining and various footwear end uses. Coarser wool-type skins are selected with fellmongering in mind. These ultimately produce slipe wool and pickled pelts. Footwear lining products mainly come from Merino sheep and lamb skins. Skins are cooled under controlled conditions for transportation to the processing site.

Skins are carefully checked for temperature compliance upon arrival and individually fed into the processing area on conveyors. After classification by trained graders skins are placed in processing vessels and processed through to salted skins. The salted skins are counted and packed for distribution to customers.
