Pelts

Pickled Sheep Pelts

New Zealand sheep pelts are split to produce oil tanned chamois leather used for automotive care and grain splits used in fashion garments.

The skins are cooled under controlled conditions before being processed.  Skins are washed before being carefully trimmed and machine fleshed to remove excess fat and flesh.

This process is important because not only does it assist the penetration of chemicals to enhance the performance of subsequent processes, but it also improves pelt flatness and contributes to waste minimisation in the supply chain. This is demanded by our customers.

Once the wool is removed, the slats are placed in vessels and processed through to pickle pelts.

The pelts are graded and packed for distribution to customers or prepared for further processing.

Pickled Lamb Pelts

Lamb pelts from New Zealand are able to be finished in the production of shoe articles, leather goods and fashion garments. They offer consistent area yields, tightness, flatness and fullness but still maintain a soft hand feel.
