Hides

Wet Blue Cattle Hides

Lowe Corporation receives hides from pasture-fed cattle exclusively from New Zealand. New Zealand cattle hides are typical of Northern European breeds.

Most cattle herds in New Zealand are identified by tags, thus ensuring that hides are free of brands. Good quality hides are the norm because of low cattle population density and good nutrition.

Lowe Corporation’s hides are machine flayed and are machine fleshed on arrival. This procedure allows for substance variation over the neck and butt regions and removes surplus fat and flesh which assists in the first stage of the tanning process. In addition to this, all Wet Blue bull hides are re-fleshed in lime which assists grain flatness.
